In celebration of Music in the Schools month, the Richmond Concert Band is holding its Old Instruments for Young Hands concert on Tuesday evening, March 31st.  The concert begins at 7:00pm in the auditorium at Linwood Holton Elementary School, located at 1600 W. Laburnum Av, in Richmond (at the corner of Laburnum Av and Hermitage Rd.)

Old Instruments for Young Hands is the Richmond Concert Band’s initiative to collect Old (no longer used) Instruments that they in turn redonate to the Richmond City School System, so that they can be put into the Young Hands of aspiring band students whose parents are financial unable to purchase or rent an instrument for their child to use.  These instruments are given to the different music teachers (elementary, middle, and high schools) where there is a need.  They are simply loaned to the students for the school year, so that they can be used again and again each year by another student.

If you have stored and no-longer used an old instrument that you think would fit well into some young hands, please bring it and drop it off at this concert.  We hope to be able to make a difference in lots more children’s lives again this year.  Ask others in your family, or ask your friends, your co-workers, or anyone else if they might have one, too.  And if you can’t make it to the concert, for some reason, contact the band (737-3767) or e-mail note@rcband.org and we can give you an address to drop it off, or we can pick it up from you.  Let’s all be the person that makes the learning possible!
